About Summa

Summa Asset Management is an independent alternative investment fund manager regulated by the Icelandic FSA and is licensed to manage undertakings for professional investment funds. Summa is also licensed to manage assets and to act as an investment advisor.

Summa specializes in asset allocation for institutional investors, and in managing mutual funds, private equity funds, and institutional funds, with an emphasis on alternative investments. Summa is 100% management owned.

Sigurgeir Tryggvason
Chief Executive Officer
Sigurgeir has over 25 years of experience in energy-related projects, real estate financing, specialized investments, and corporate finance. He previously led real estate and project finance at Kaupthing Bank, worked in corporate advisory and credit analysis, and served as Head of Project Finance at Norðurál.

Sigurgeir holds four master’s degrees; in International Business Management, MBA, Electrical Power Engineering, and Law.

Haraldur Óskar Haraldsson
Head of Fund Management
Haraldur Óskar brings more than 25 years of experience in asset management, risk management, treasury, and financial advisory. He has been with Summa since 2013 and has advised both private companies and public entities on finance and investment matters since 2009. Previously, he worked at Kaupthing in risk and treasury management and as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering at Reykjavík University (2005–2014).

Haraldur Óskar holds a PhD in Energy Engineering from Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm.

Hrafnkell Kárason
Head of Quantitative Analysis
Hrafnkell has over 25 years of experience in risk management and modelling. He began his career in Kaupthing’s risk research and development department, which he later led, before becoming Group Head of Risk Management and Credit Risk. From 2009 until joining Summa, he worked independently, specializing in advisory projects related to risk analysis, valuation, data processing, and modelling.

Hrafnkell holds a PhD in Geophysics from MIT, a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iceland, and an MBA from Reykjavík University.

Ómar Tryggvason
Head of Special Investments
Ómar has 30 years of experience in investments and fund management. He began his career at the Monetary Policy department of the Central Bank of Iceland in 1995, later becoming Head of Proprietary Trading and Treasury at Íslandsbanki. He then spent eight years at Kaupthing’s asset management division, as the CIO of Frjalsi pension fund and other pension mandates and as Head of Alternative Investments from 2003. From 2009 until joining Summa, he advised and managed investments on behalf of Icelandic pension funds.

Ómar holds a B.Sc. in Finance from the University of South Carolina.

Ólöf Hildur Pálsdóttir
Head of Debt Financing
Ólöf has more than 25 years of experience in asset management, corporate banking, and restructuring. She held senior roles at Kaupthing and Arion Bank, including Head of Corporate Credit analysis and structuring, and was a member of the bank’s credit committee. From 2019 to 2021, she served as CFO and COO at atNorth ehf. Ólöf has also served on the boards of Eimskip hf., Reginn hf., and VÍS hf.

Ólöf holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Iceland, studied for master’s in Finance from the Luxembourg School of Finance and has completed the Sustainable Investing program at Harvard Business School Online.

Þórunn Helga Þórðardóttir
Þórunn Helga holds a master’s degree in Law from Reykjavík University (2010), was admitted to the Icelandic Bar in 2012, and earned an LL.M. from Columbia University in 2013. She completed her MBA at Reykjavík University in 2025. Þórunn Helga is an independent board member and has served on Summa’s board since 2016.

Bjarni Karl Guðlaugsson
Bjarni Karl holds a degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of South Carolina (1996). He worked at KPMG New York in auditing and advisory before joining Búnaðarbanki and later Kaupthing and Stefnir, focusing on the management of international investment funds. Since 2017, he has worked as an independent consultant and professional guide. He joined Summa’s board in 2020.

Júlíus Jón Jónsson
Júlíus Jón retired in 2022 after a 40-year career with HS Veitur and its predecessors. A business graduate of the University of Iceland, he joined Hitaveita Suðurnesja in 1982 and became CEO ten years later. Following the company’s division into HS Orka and HS Veitur in 2008, he served as CEO of both until 2013 and continued as CEO of HS Veitur until his retirement. He joined Summa’s board in 2022.
